PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Review & Ratings

Better Slumber

Organic latex mattresses are much less common in the marketplace than spring and memory foam mattresses. They are, however, the cream of the crop when it comes to mattress ownership, and if you haven’t experienced a latex mattress, you certainly should, at least once in your life. This is for numerous reasons, such as comfort, longevity, cooling, support, and much more.

The Botanical Bliss by PlushBeds is a luxury organic latex mattress with a buoyant feel that gently cradles pressure points. This is a feature that helps relieve aches and pains while you sleep. In turn, you’ll have a deeper and comfortable sleep. For this reason, chiropractors and orthopedic specialists recommend this mattress.

In our unbiased PlushBeds reviews, we’ll take a closer look at the most important factors surrounding purchasing a new mattress and relating it to the Botanical Bliss.

Who Won't Love The Botanical Bliss

The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss

"Recommended by orthopedic specialists and chiropractors for its comfort, pressure point relief and support."

General Construction

The Botanical Bliss is an all-latex mattress. It has 3 layers of organic Dunlop latex, each 3 –inches thick. All of this is wrapped in a cotton cover. Here are the details of the arrangement of the layers:

  • Organic cotton cover: This is the topmost layer, and is breathable whilst also being very comfortable. It is made of soft knitted cotton and allows free flow of air and unrestricted moisture absorption. This results in a cooler and drier sleeping surface.
  • Organic New Zealand wool: It is a layer beneath the cotton cover; its construction ensures that temperature regulation stays maximum. Essentially, each PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress has up to 10 lbs of certified organic wool. The wool allows for natural breathability, exceptional soothing support, and aids your body in maintaining a cool and comfortable temperature throughout the night.
  • Organic latex layers: These are responsible for pressure relief, and they do it pretty well. There are 3 layers, each one made of organic Dunlop latex from Arpico. Dunlop is a denser type of latex as compared to Talalay latex. As such, it results in a firmer structure. Additionally, each of the layers has a unique calibration; hence, different firmness (soft, medium, and firm). You can arrange the layers in whatever order you like. The advantage of this arrangement is that you can choose precisely the perfect level of softness and support that you desire.

Thickness Options

PlushBeds mattress layers
  • 9-inch thickness: It has two pieces of 3-inch layers of organic Arpico Latex, one 2-inch layer of natural Arpico Latex wrapped in a one-inch organic cotton cover, with 10 pounds of organic wool batting.
  • 10-inch thickness: Features three, 3- inch layers of organic Arpico Latex, wrapped in 1-inch of organic cotton cover, with 10 lbs of organic wool batting.
  • 12-inch thickness: Has all the layers the 10-inch mattress has but adds a 4th layer of 2-inch organic latex. This addition allows a more firm variation or just addition of height to your bed.

Firmness and Feel

The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss is available in two pre-configured firmness levels when it’s delivered from the company:

Medium: Ideal for side sleepers and most other types of positions. This mattress has a firmness of 5.5 on a firmness scale of 1 to 10.

Mattress firmness scale: 5.5 / 10

Firm: Ideal for sleepers weighing 275 lbs and above, as well as stomach and back sleepers. The mattress has a rating of 6.5 on a 1-10 firmness scale.

Mattress firmness scale: 6.5 / 10

Besides the above specifications, you can easily adjust the firmness of the two mattresses by reorganizing the foam slabs. The cover has a zip. So you just have to unzip it and then swap the topmost layer (soft) with the middle (medium-firm) layer for a quick, easy and simple comfort change.

The Medium feel PlushBeds Botanical Bliss should be more yielding than the Firm. However, most testers found that both beds give a feeling of sleeping ‘on’ rather than ‘in’ the mattress. The less hugging effect of the latex mattress in comparison to the memory foam is due to low point elasticity in latex mattresses. Therefore, the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress does not provide as much cradling as many memory foam mattresses do. But, the mattresses offer an enjoyable level of contouring for a reasonable amount of pressure relief.

All medium latex mattresses ship with 3 layers, i.e., a soft top layer, a medium-soft middle layer, and a medium bottom layer. Eighty percent of customers find this combination perfect for their needs.

On the other hand, the Firm selection usually ships with the Medium, Med-Firm, and Extra-Firm layers. Heavy people and back/stomach sleepers appreciate this arrangement.

Dual Comfort with Split Layers

The King and Cal King latex mattresses allow you to customize your sleep. The beds have two separate portions, i.e., split layers, which offer you a chance to customize each side of the mattress’s firmness to suit your current need. This feature is perfect for couples who share the bed, and have different comfort preferences.

Body Type & Sleeping Positions

Different sleepers often have different preferences when it comes to firmness levels. The differences arise due to factors such as individual body shape, weight, and sleep position. Let’s look at the different types of sleepers:

Lightweight Sleepers (Less than 130 lbs)

The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress works very well with lightweight sleepers. However, such people often prefer the Medium option as opposed to the Firm. The Medium option offers them enough cradling to help relieve pain from pressure points. At the same time, the Firm version is slightly too firm, because the lightweight sleeper cannot sink into the latex layers enough to get a contouring feel.

Back and stomach sleepers will enjoy the firm feel of the mattress. It offers a stable surface that prevents the midsection from sinking in deeply.

Side sleepers, on the other hand, will find the Botanical Bliss reasonably good. Nevertheless, there was some pressure in the hip and shoulder regions. But the 1-inch wool layer can provide the much needed extra cushioning and softness.

Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 230 lbs)

Average weight sleepers, regardless of their sleeping position, will find this mattress very comfortable.

For instance, back sleepers appreciate the Medium and Firm versions for offering an even, stable surface, which prevented excessive sinking without feeling hard.

For side sleepers, the Medium offers pressure point relief while providing support for proper spinal alignment. With the ability to reorganize layers, you can adjust firmness for a more comfortable sleep.

Overweight Sleepers (More than 230 pounds)

For obese and overweight sleepers, the Firm version is the best fit. The mattress provides the right balance of contouring and support. Additionally, the latex layers offer them an excellent cradling effect.

For back and stomach sleepers, it was a little bit different. Although the mattress provides a stable surface, the mid-section sunk a little too deep. For this category of sleepers, a good mattress choice would be the 12-inch, Firm model. The added thickness is vital in providing extra support, and the firmness helps prevent excessive sinking.

Botanical Bliss Performance Ratings

Motion Isolation: If you share a bed with your partner, you’ll definitely want a mattress that cancels the disturbance from motions that your partner can make. Tests done with sleepers showed that there is some flex when one person moves on the mattress. However, the latex material dampened and absorbed the motion transfer very effectively.

Though you might feel your partner tossing and turning or getting on or off the bed, the motion’s intensity doesn’t generally impact sleep. However, remember that latex transfers more movement than memory foam while providing a bouncier feel.

Durability: Natural latex is denser and longer-lasting when compared to other kinds of mattress materials. Coupled with quality workmanship, this mattress is expected to last decades. Additionally, the 25-year warranty is a reassuring aspect.

Temperature Neutrality: Sleeping on the Botanical Bliss mattress confers a cool, dry, and comfortable night. The organic cotton cover wicks away moisture, while the breathable layer of wool regulates temperature. Additionally, organic latex is naturally breathable.

Pressure Relief: Tests with a pressure-measuring sensory pad shows that the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss has less pressure relief than most memory foam mattresses. Nonetheless, it offers as much body contouring aspects as a memory foam mattress would do. Again, it provides decent support. There is some pressure built up at the hips and shoulder, especially for lightweight side sleepers.

Edge Support: Body weight is essential in determining edge support. However, sitting on the edge of the bed results in some sinkage, but it is pronounced in heavy individuals. Similarly, sleeping too close to the sides gives a considerable sinkage, which results in a feeling of rolling off the edge.

Off-Gassing: The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss doesn’t have a discernable door apart from a faint natural smell from the latex and wool, which disappears within 24 hours.

The Botanical Bliss mattress doesn’t come cheap. But that can be said for most latex mattresses. However, when comparing the PlushBeds mattress to other latex mattresses, it isn’t too far off. It is slightly more expensive than others, but in terms of value for money, the mattress is priced fairly, especially considering you can often find the company offering sales during notable seasonal holidays.

PlushBeds Mattress FAQ

What are the firmness levels of the mattress?

A great feature of the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress is that there are two different firmnesses for each bed (Medium and Firm). Besides, the King and Cal King sizes have a split firmness option, meaning each side can be tailored with the arrangement of the layers.

That notwithstanding may need to reset your bed to get a firmness level that suits you. The manufacturer offers a series of graphics on their website on how to orient the latex section of the mattresses considering that the Dunlop latex layers are interchangeable.

How long is the sleep trial?

The PlushBeds mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial, meaning you can use it for up to 100 nights, and if you cant get used to it, send it back for free.

How long is the warranty?

The PlushBeds latex mattress comes with a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty.

How will the mattress arrive?

The Botanical Bliss is a bed-in-a-box, which is built to order and delivered to your door. Due to weight restrictions, large-sized beds may arrive in two separate boxes. As such, they may require you to assemble.

What if the mattress is still too soft?

If the feel of the mattress doesn’t satisfy you, PlushBeds will give an additional Firm layer.

What type of bed should I use?

The mattress can be a little heavy. As such, the company recommends that you place the mattress on a stable flat surface like a slatted bed frame (not more than 2-inches apart) or platforms. Since the mattress has some elasticity to it, it is also ideal for adjustable frames.

Our PlushBeds Ratings

The Verdict

The PlushBeds mattress is, undoubtedly, one of the most comfortable mattresses in the world. In fact, we currently have it rated as number 1 in our best latex mattress category.

A mattress made of natural material is, undoubtedly, the most desirable thing. The Botanical Bliss is built of the highest quality latex from the bottom to the topmost layer. Such a factor not only makes it a comfortable mattress but also a durable option in the market.

Additionally, it is breathable, has reasonable bounce, and offers decent support. Organic latex has several benefits, including being dust mite resistant, cool sleeping, and doesn’t have the irritating smell and toxins. However, edge support is little on the lacking side.

Overall, we’d say that although the price is relatively high (even compared to other latex mattresses), it’s still definitely worth trying out. Most people don’t return it during the trial, which indicates high customer satisfaction.
