While sleep refreshes you, not all your mornings may be as refreshing as you want – reason: wrong mattress. Sleepers may have an old mattress, or simply one that isn’t compatible with their sleeping style. Perhaps the firmness isn’t suitable, or simply the quality was lacking from the outset.
On the other hand, we have the Puffy mattress. Numerous user reviews online vouch for Puffy with an abundance of positive comments in each reviewed criteria. This has to be worth an in-depth analysis, right?
Additionally, the Puffy ranks as the most comfortable mattress of 2022 in many publications. For this reason, we thought we’d take a more in-depth look and offer our own unbiased Puffy mattress review to see what all the fuss is about. We’ve already reviewed the Puffy Lux, which surpassed our expectations. So, without further ado, let’s dive into this review and see what we find with the Puffy.
Who Is This Mattress Best For?
Who Won't Love This Mattress?
The Puffy Mattress
How Is The Firmness?
The Puffy mattress has a medium-firm feel. On a comfort scale of 1-10 (1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest), it has a rating of 6 out of 10. When compared to most medium-firm mattresses, Puffy offers a higher contouring sleep surface, which feels softer (yet still supportive), thanks to the 2-inch comfort layers.
The memory foam has standout pressure-point relief properties when compared to innerspring. The Puffy has a high point elasticity, a quality that allows the mattress to compress directly beneath the point where weight is applied as opposed to radiating around the pressure point. You get a feeling of sleeping in the bed rather than on top of the mattress.
Puffy Mattress Sleep Experience
Puffy claims it’s like sleeping on a cloud. To be honest, they’re not far off. The top 2 layers are meant for comfort, and with the 2″ 2.5 PCF gel memory foam layer, it indeed resembles the wonderful memory foam feel. What this typically means is that the Puffy conforms to the shape of your body. Most consumers love that neutral, comfortable foam feel with a hint of the sinking and hugging sensation provided by memory foam. This gives your sleep surface a blended, neutral-foam feel, overall.
Additionally, if you are a little heavy (perhaps 250 lbs and above), you may feel a little bit of the transition layer, meaning the sleep surface may be much harder.
Puffy and Sleeping Positions
Do you sleep on your back, stomach, side, or a combination of all of them? Did you know that sleeping on your side can create pressure points at your shoulders and hips? Hips can sink out of alignment with the spine, which may result in back pain and stiffness. Stomach sleeping on the wrong mattress can also cause unwanted pain on the ribs, chest, and organs. Pressure points lead to health issues and painful discomfort.
Because the Puffy mattress lies midways on the firmness scale, it makes this mattress ideal for all sleepers.
Side sleepers will find the adaptive top layer accommodating to their needs. The Puffy mattress has highly contouring memory foam that compresses at these potential pressure points while still curving to support your waist.
Back and stomach sleepers generally need a firm or medium firmness foam. Too soft causes them to sink, hence creating an uneven surface and causing the spine to be misaligned. The same spinal issues can occur when side sleeping. As the Puffy is considered medium-firm, it should suffice all sleeping positions.
Puffy and Body Weight
Obese and heavy body sleepers can enjoy the Puffy mattress, but probably not for long without prematurely causing mattress sag and developing body pain. Puffy claims their mattresses can effectively support weight up to 350 lbs (on either side), but in our opinion, although this kind of weight may be supported, it will cause extra wear and tear, thus reduce mattress lifespan.
Remember, the Puffy mattress has a medium-firm firmness due to the combination of a firm base and an extra-soft sleep surface. Such characteristics can offer overweight sleepers a relief of pressure as well as support. Heavy bodied people tend to compress the foam more. Therefore, they will not have the same feeling as lightweight sleepers but will have adequate support nonetheless.
Is It Good For Pain Relief?
Puffy has an ultra-adaptive and contouring polyurethane foam. The comfort layers are thick enough for deep hugging support as you sleep. The design melts away your pressure points as well as offering much-needed pain relief to your body. Essentially, that translates to the Puffy mattress being a good option for preventing sores and pains around the body each morning and is especially good for reducing back pain.
The durability of any mattress is dependant on its material. Memory foam isn’t as durable as latex, but bear in mind a latex mattress would be double in price.
With Puffy, the bottom layer, which acts as the foundation, is a high density (low PCF) 7″ Firm Core Support base layer. This means it can handle large amounts of weight over prolonged periods and not sag. The more weight it experiences, the less durable it will become, but as for everyday use by anyone below 300lbs, you can expect the Puffy to provide a comfortable sleep experience for several years.
Generally, memory foam mattresses cause sleepers to feel hot at night. Here is how; memory foam absorbs more heat and retains it. Moreover, its cradling nature reduces the rate of airflow. This results in a hot sleeping experience.
Since Puffy uses ClimateComfort gel-infused foam and temperature-neutral polyfoam, it doesn’t absorb and trap body heat. This allows a cooler sleep than the traditional viscoelastic foams. Hence, the mattress offers excellent temperature neutrality than most of its memory foam competitors.
It’s worth noting that the Puffy mattress performs well even after being in the same spot for several hours. This makes sleeping even in the hottest climates cool and comfortable.
The off-gassing odor is a common occurrence in all-foam mattresses when they are new—especially for those delivered in a box, sealed and rolled. However, low-density foam mattresses like Puffy produce light and least persistent smells. When you unwrap the Puffy mattress from its plastic wrapping, you will no doubt notice an odor. Nonetheless, it fades away within 24 hours, and even faster in a well-ventilated room.
How Is The Edge Support?
Most foam mattresses have little edge support, and that applies to the Puffy too. If you sit on the edge of the bed, it will dip a little, regardless of your weight. Now, this isn’t a problem if you don’t sit on the side, but it’s something that some people often do.
Surprisingly, when you sleep close to the Puffy edge, you get more support than we’d expected from a memory foam mattress. It isn’t the best because it can’t compare to a hybrid or innerspring mattress, but in comparison to other foam mattresses, it performs very well.
Lastly, if you are heavy, you may experience a feeling of rolling. Nevertheless, if you are less than 200 lbs, the puffy should offer enough support even if you’re slumber takes you near the edges.
Warranty & Sleep Trial
Most mattress companies rarely offer anything less than 10 years warranty, especially those made of foam. However, Puffy has far exceeded this threshold and set the standard with a Lifetime Warranty. Some other foam mattress comparisons that offer a Lifetime Warranty are Nectar and Layla Sleep.
As for the free sleep trial, you’ll get 101 nights to try the mattress at home. If you don’t get along with it, you have the option to send it back and get a refund. While 101 nights is plenty of time to decide, it’s still shorter than some other companies. For example, the above mentioned Layla offers an additional 19 nights, while the Nectar mattress comes with a generous 365-night trial.

Shipping & Returns
Delivery is free to the contiguous US, but shipping charges will apply for people living in Hawaii or Alaska. Expect delivery within 1-3 business days via FedEx. As for returns, if you’re not happy with the mattress, you can get a full refund. You will not have to pay shipping costs for having the mattress picked up, as they’ll arrange with local charities or recycling centers to collect on your behalf free of charge. This is excellent news, as some companies like Saatva charge a transportation fee, which can be costly.
Setting Up The Mattress
Puffy currently is not offering a white glove delivery service. The reason for this is because it’s relatively easy to setup. It comes delivered in a box and should be laid out on your bed and unwrapped to expand into shape slowly. This sounds easy for most people, but it is definitely a 2-person job. People living on their own should seek a second pair of hands. For elderly people, this task would be impossible. A white glove delivery option would’ve been great, even at a charge.

Is the Puffy a quiet mattress?
Puffy is a quiet mattress. Whether you sit or climb into your bed, these mattresses are silent. The reason for this is because unlike innerspring mattresses, they have no moving parts.
Is it good for couples?
In our opinion, yes it’s great for couples or anyone who’s sharing a bed. The motion isolation is second-to-none and the noise transfer is non-existent. As for sex, it doesn’t offer the same bounce as latex or spring, but that’s memory foam as a whole and not just with the Puffy.

No, this is not an option. If you need your old mattress picking up, contact LoadUp.
What type of bed do I need for the Puffy mattress?
