The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress is an all-foam bed-in-a-box solution with a super-soft feel. The mattress features gentle and adaptive foams with unique cooling properties. If you resonate well with a luxurious vibe, then this might be the right option for you.
Though the Tuft and Needle Mint has a soft foam feel, it has a decent level of resilience; thus, it lacks the classic sink associated with many all-foam mattresses. But don’t let that put you off; the mattress is still one of the most popular out there from one of the leading mattress brands in the US. It follows on from the best-selling T&N Original and is a fairly substantial upgrade in many ways.
So, in our latest Tuft and Needle Mint review, we’ll be looking at the mattress’s construction, feel, and performance and will decide whether or not this one lives up to its brand’s reputation.

Tuft & Needle Mint Construction And Material
The Mint mattress has a three-layer design: foam, polyfoam, and then a HD polyfoam base. It is the most luxurious mattress from the brand as it comes with an extra layer and features changes to the construction material to make it more comfortable for sleepers. Typically, the mattress is a lot more cushiony and has exciting cooling properties compared to the Tuft and Needle Original. Let’s take a deeper look at the mattress internals.
The Tuft & Needle Mint has a cover designed from a blend of polyamide and polyester. The charcoal cover is thick, very soft, and has a cozy feel, giving it a luxurious overall splendor that can be appreciated through standard sheets. The cover is removable but not machine washable. In case of spills, spot clean it with water and mild detergent rather than washing it. Furthermore, it is blended with HeiQ NPJ03, which helps protect the mattress from harmful bacteria, which would typically speed up the degradation process.
This is the layer beneath the cover and the area that the sleeper will encounter the most beyond the cover itself. It’s 3-inch thick and designed from the proprietary T&N Adaptive® Foam. The foam has a slow response to pressure; thus, resulting in plenty of body contouring and comforting sinkage. Sinkage in memory foam mattresses is associated with overheating; however, this mattress mitigates heating by the infusion of cooling graphite, absorbing and dissipating body heat. The amount of graphite is 30% more than its predecessor, which not only adds to the price of the T&N Mint, but also provides more comfort for a hot sleeper.
This layer is designed from a 2-inch polyfoam material. The polyfoam has a slightly quicker response to pressure than the adaptive memory foam above it. Therefore, it curbs excessive sagging arising from the soft memory foam layer above. It also allows for a quick transition between sleeping positions. Interestingly, this layer features cooling beads, which activate upon application of pressure.
The base is a thick layer of foam, making the support core. At 6.5-inches thick, this high-density polyfoam foundation gives the Mint mattress stability and shape. Besides, it supports all of the top layers and prevents bottoming out.
Mattress Feel and Firmness
The Tuft and Needle Mint has a soft feel. However, the firmness of a mattress is very subjective as it can change depending on a sleeper’s size, weight, or shape.
Overall, the Mint mattress is considered a medium feel with an average firmness score of 5/10. Keep in mind; the top layer is super soft and thick, offering enough room for sleepers to sink slightly, thus feeling comfortable and cradled. This results in admirable pressure relief at the shoulders and hips and also does wonders for the back. If you have back pain, the Tuft and Needle Mint may be a good option.
The Mint and Sleeping Positions
The Tuft and Needle brand is well-known for its use of adaptive foam, which responds to pressure with weight. This is much like standard memory foam, but in a more responsive manner, making it ideal for every type of sleeper. On a more detailed basis, let’s discuss how the mattress responds to different sleeping positions:
The cushiony vibe due to the thick and top soft Adaptive Foam allows side sleepers to sink into the mattress for better pressure relief slowly. The transition layer, however, keeps sleepers from sinking deeper than needed. Heavier side sleepers over 250 pounds might bottom out; so, this might not be the right mattress. Overweight side sleepers should check our Mattress For Heavy People reviews.
Initially, lying on your back offers decent support. The hips and spine are aligned properly without any issues. Back pain is relieved, and it’s delicate on the lower back in particular. But if you are weighty, your hips may sink a little out of alignment. A firmer mattress might be a better option.
The cushiony vibe isn’t great for stomach sleepers. Even average-weight stomach sleepers might experience their hips sinking into the mattress. So, this mattress isn’t the best option for stomach sleepers due to its soft nature.
If you often switch position while sleeping, the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress may be a good choice. The responsive foam topmost layers provide a decent level of bounce; even though the mattress is soft and cradling when it comes to moving around, the adaptive foam serves well.
Tuft and Needle Mint Performance
This section looks at how the Mint mattress performs in the below aspects:
The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress features cooling graphite in its Adaptive foam (top) layer and cooling gel beads in the transition layer, which dissipate heat and promote airflow. These features make the mattress cooler than traditional foam mattresses.
Pressure relief depends on the sleeping position, shape, and weight of the sleepers. Back sleepers receive an initial decent pressure relief as the mattress feels the lumbar region when sleeping. The bed offers an excellent lift to average weight sleepers ensuring the spine is in neutral alignment.
Side sleepers get the best pressure relief at the hips and shoulders, thanks to the mattress’s cushioning feeling. However, stomach sleepers do not get much pressure-point relief as their hips sink face the risk of coming out of alignment with the shoulders, resulting in back pain.
Motion transfer is an essential factor for couples. The amount of movements detected from one side of the Tuft and Needle Mint is minimal for the other sleeper. The thick foam layer dampens/absorbs most movements that sleeping partners generate. The movements can be from tossing and turning, getting out of bed or jumping on the bed.
All-foam beds have a terrible reputation when it comes to edge support. However, the T&N Mint has an enhanced edge to ensure that its edges are firmer and useful. The mattress’s support layer is firmer towards the edge, meaning that the edges do not compress much when you sleep or sit on them. So, sitting on the edge doesn’t give that feeling of falling off. Similarly, lying near the edge doesn’t provide the sense of rolling off the mattress.
The Tuft & Needle Mint is designed from high-quality material; therefore, it should have a longer life span, probably between 7 and 10 years.
There is a chemical smell when unboxing the mattress. This is normal for all-foam mattresses, and the odor should fade within 48 hours if the room is well ventilated.
Warranty and Sleep Trial
The warranty with this mattress is 10 years. A 10-year warranty with memory foam mattresses is fairly standard in today’s market. However, some are offering lifetime warranties for similarly priced mattresses.
The sleep trial is 100 nights long. Many online mattress companies who sell a bed-in-a-box will offer anything between a 100-365 nights trial period. In our opinion, the Mint mattress could come with a longer trial to increase the aspect of value for money. However, in reality, 100 nights is probably enough to decide whether or not you like the mattress.
