Live and Sleep Classic Mattress Review

Helen

Getting an 8-9 hour sleep every night is a physiologic need that most people tend to forget. One of the things that can help contribute to a good night’s sleep is the right mattress. The mattress should be able to support your weight and offer comfort at the same time.

The Live and Sleep Classic is a mid-range luxury mattress that offers both comfort and support without requiring you to pay more than $1,000, even for its largest size. This comes with several features that might look appealing to some. For starters, it’s an all-foam mattress at a very competitive price. But, unfortunately, like with all mattresses, this one may not be for all users.

We tested the Live and Sleep mattress to ensure that you know what to expect if you chose to buy one. This would include discussing factors such as materials used, warranty, sleep trial, bed compatibility, and so on. So, if you’re looking to learn more, check our latest Live and Sleep mattress review below for a lowdown on this popular memory foam model.

Who Would Love This Mattress?

Who Might Not Love This Mattress?

The Live and Sleep Classic Memory Foam Mattress

"Designed to make you feel like you're sleeping on a cloud."

Mattress Construction

The Live and Sleep Classic has a straightforward design that makes it a good choice whether you are in it for comfort or support. This mattress has three layers. The first layer is a cover that is resilient and easy to stretch, protecting the foams underneath. The stretch knit cover is both soft and breathable, making the user feel comfortable even during hot nights.

Mattress Certifications

The Live and Sleep Classic mattress is a favorite among eco-friendly and health-conscious consumers. The foams used have the necessary certification to ensure no harmful chemicals used in manufacturing the product. The foams that you’ll see inside are CertiPur-US, and the textiles tested for toxic substances are OEKO-TEX certified.

Comfort and Firmness

Live and Sleep Classic

Because it’s an all-foam mattress that combines comfortable memory foam and thick polyurethane foam, it offers a mix of both great comfort and good support. However, if rating the firmness on a 1-10 gauge (1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest), we’d give it a medium-firm feel meaning a rating of 6.5.

Mattress firmness scale: 6.5 / 10

The cover and the memory foam help a lot when providing comfort to your body and curves without sinking in bed. This gives users that gentle cradle experience but without the aches and pains on your back or hips once you get off the bed in the morning.

The mattress feels a bit slow when it comes to responding to movement, but the good news is that you won’t feel as if you are stuck in bed. And as expected from a foam mattress, you don’t get a lot of bounce from it.

This makes it a perfect option, especially for back sleepers. You will feel that your hips and shoulders are supported evenly thanks to the conforming features of the contouring memory foam. Plus, you also have enough thickness at the base layer to prevent your weight from sinking deep through the topmost mattress layers. If you are a stomach sleeper, you get enough support without compromising overall comfort.

Body Temperature Regulation

The Live and Sleep Classic memory foam mattress is not exactly something we recommend for people who live in hot places or those who don’t sleep with an air conditioning unit in their room. It tends to get hot, especially if you sleep in one position for most of the night. For some people, this might be a deal-breaker, considering how waking up sweating in the middle of the night disrupts sleep.

The cover helps in a way to alleviate this discomfort. It allows for a cool feel, but other than that, you get a typical all-foam mattress that’s rather hot to use. Expect heavy individuals to feel the need to toss and turn at night just to find the cooler spot in the mattress.

It doesn’t have technology such as a cooling pad or any breathable foam to keep the temperature neutral. Instead, you only have the cover that offers breathability. But still, it isn’t enough to keep the temperature at neutral.

Motion Transfer and Isolation

One of the things that can disturb your sleep is the movement of another person or pet you are sleeping with. Since the Live and Sleep Classic is a primarily foam-based mattress, it does extremely well in the motion transfer department.

Regardless of the person’s size on the other side of the bed, you rarely get to experience any disturbance on your side. This makes it a good option for couples or siblings who may share a bed. You can expect an uninterrupted slumber even if you sleep beside someone who likes to toss and turn all night. Light sleepers can take advantage of this as they often can be undisturbed on their side of the bed.

Edge Support Capability

As with temperature regulation, being made of all foam, the Live and Sleep mattress is expected not to have good edge support. However, surprisingly, this mattress’s edge support is somewhat better than most all-foam mattresses that we’ve tried. Because of the high-density base foam, it has added rigidity around the edges. This helps the sleeper stay in bed even when they sleep right at the edge without much sinkage. This allows users to maximize the majority of the bed.

However, this is still a foam mattress without the reinforcement of springs or latex. If you are someone who weighs around 230 pounds and you decided to sleep close to the edge, you might experience a slight dip or a feeling as if you are rolling, if very close to the bed-edge.

Who Should Buy The Live and Sleep Classic Mattress?

Budget-conscious individuals

One of the things that you will notice with the Live and Sleep Classic is that the largest size of the mattress doesn’t even cost $700. This is something that a lot of consumers can take advantage of, especially if they want a luxury feel when they sleep but don’t have the budget to go with the desire. There’s no need to spend thousands of dollars to experience a luxury mattress because this option comes close to rivals priced at circa $1000 (Queen size).

Given your average luxury mattress price, the Live and Sleep memory foam mattress is reasonably priced. If you are only after comfort and support, without the frills of inclusive white glove delivery or long sleep trial, this makes an affordable option.

Eco-conscious and health-conscious individuals

The Live and Sleep mattress is also a favorite among individuals who don’t want to get exposed to harmful chemicals while they sleep. The foams used are CertiPur-US, and the fabrics used in the cover are OEKO-TEX certified. It means there are no toxic chemicals in the construction that could cause allergic reactions or be harmful to the environment.

Couples and those who sleep with pets

Sharing the bed with a partner or pet (or sibling) isn’t a problem with this mattress. It can limit the motion on one side of the bed, allowing light sleepers to get to uninterrupted sleep even if the other person kept on tossing and turning at night.

The same can be said for those who have pets. If you have a large cat or dog who loves to snuggle with you in the middle of the night, you won’t have any problem it decides to toss and turn since this mattress doesn’t offer any bounce.

People with back problems

The memory foam does an excellent job when it comes to straightening out people’s spine. This becomes an ideal option for those individuals with lower back pain who are looking to have their back supported. It is also a good buy for those who are having hip problems. It offers excellent pressure relief plus enough support making it a good choice for people with orthopedic issues.

People who are unsure of their mattress

Are you someone who isn’t exactly sure whether you will like a mattress or not? The Live and Sleep Classic memory foam mattress is a good choice for people who don’t have any experience buying a mattress. The company offers a 30-night sleep trial. Here, you get a month to try the mattress yourself in the comfort of your home. If you aren’t happy with your purchase, then you can return the mattress with no questions asked.

Those who want to help charity

According to the company, part of each purchase is donated straight to charity, something you don’t get to see in all companies.

Individuals who want a foam mattress that offers decent edge support

Compared to other memory foam mattresses that you’ll encounter in the market today, you will find the Live and Sleep Classic as having above-average edge support. Though it is still not an innerspring mattress where you get to maximize your mattress’s entire surface, it allows better support than most out there.

Issues With The Live and Sleep Classic Mattress

Not great comfort for heavy individuals

The Live and Sleep Classic memory foam mattress is what’s classed as a medium-firm feel. Without a doubt, it can hold an average-heavy individual’s weight. You won’t have a problem if you weigh around 250 pounds with this mattress. However, it is important that if you weigh above 300 lbs, you may want to consider looking at some hybrid mattresses or ones that are specifically made to handle heavier weight. Check our reviews of mattresses for heavy people for more info.

Not enough edge support for large individuals

Compared to other mattresses, the Live and Sleep offers better perimeter support mainly because of its firmness. However, if you are someone heavy who can collapse the memory foam, you will feel sinkage as if you are about to roll-off when you sleep along the bed’s edge.

Users who expect to sleep cool

If you tend to get all sweaty in bed, you will feel uncomfortable on this mattress. The combination of polyurethane foam as a high-density base and memory foam on top will tend to make someone feel hot, especially if overweight or when sleeping during a summer night. If you tend to stay in one spot while asleep, don’t get surprised if you find yourself sweating in the middle of the night with this mattress.

Short trial period

A lot of mattress companies offer a long trial period to their customers. Most allow customers to have a 100-180 night trial before they can decide whether or not they like to keep the mattress. Live and Sleep are only offering 30 nights. This is very short, in our opinion, but for the price, these are the cuts you expect that allow the mattress to be sold for cheaper.

As an all-foam mattress, you can use virtually all types of beds. Regardless if it is a platform-style or an adjustable bed, you get to choose the type that fits your requirements. But if you are going to use slatted beds, be sure that each slat shouldn’t be more than 3-inch away from each other.

Yes, all mattresses that contain memory foam will release a chemical smell when new. This is known as off-gassing. The odor should dissipate after 24-48 hours.

Is shipping free?

The Live and Sleep company is currently shipping the mattress for free within the continental US. The company also ships to Hawaii and Alaska but for an additional charge. Also, note they can ship the mattress within 4-7 days.

Our Ratings On This Mattress

The Verdict

Getting a good mattress is a challenge, especially for those who don’t have a large budget. But with the Live and Sleep mattress, imagine getting a luxury model without spending more than $1,000. A 10-inch all-foam mattress that offers sufficient support on your back, hips, and shoulders, it’s an ideal mattress for people who are having back issues. Since it has that medium-firm feel, you get the comfort you need from the memory foam, but you also get sufficient contouring for your back.

But there are some issues that you have to anticipate if you opt to buy the mattress. For instance, it can sleep rather hot, thus not keeping your neutral temperature. Also, it might not perform too well for heavy people in terms of edge support and overall comfort. If you weigh less than 300 pounds, you should be fine.

Overall, this is one of the better low-cost memory foam mattresses out there, which shouldn’t disappoint.
